REVOLUTIONIZING INSTANT VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

Share BROADCAST Highlights in Real Time

What if viewers could see broadcast TV on Facebook, Twitter and Youtube in seconds rather than hours. What if editors could cut from the laptop, ipad or phone. What if Advertisers could reach social networks with the most exciting moments as they happened. The biggest moments brought to the biggest audiences by the biggest brands.

• It had to be simple and easy to learn fast

• The entire experience had to be designed well enough to win the trust of Broadcast Networks, Cable and Sports Leagues.

• The video players had to be designed well enough to play in line on Facebook and Twitter and win them over.

We were empowering a much wider range of users with vastly different levels of video experience. We were empowering the social media and editorial team to publish their own highlights for the first time.

Research & Concepting

I have used dozens of video editors over the years and I wanted a design that was approachable and easy enough to use during stressful live events.  We narrowed down the must have functions that were essential. We wrote user stories by asking the questions, who, what, and why to better focus on the use cases of our target customers. I sketched, wireframed and made clickable prototypes of early versions giving us a clear description of what the editor entails.

Visual Design & Development

Prototyping helped identify certain probelms that we then avoided. Next I refined the visual elements until we had a design we were happy with. Development happened in relatively quick stages and we iterated with new features being added and bugs fixed with each release.

OUR mvP AND CONTINUOUs Iteration

We repeated this process improving the product, fixing bugs and notifying and educating our customers of improvements we were making to the experience.

THE FLOW

LiveHub Portal Wireframe

The LiveHub Administrative Portal empowered our partners to take control over their events and media assets. I worked closely with the product and engineering team on the functionality and design of the portal. Over time the functionality continued to grow and we had a framework that could accomodate that relatively painlesssly. I designed a home page for the portal that displayed recent activity, what's on now and a schedule at a glance.

Analytics Dashboard

A key part of the LiveHub portal was our analytics dashboard to show an overview of performance as well as provide detailed data and reports. I wireframed and designed the data visualizations and worked closely with the product and engineering team to bring them to life. It was very insightful to see the the break down of views and shares for our partners events.

SnappyTV Solution - American Idol

SnappyTV in action allowed the American Idol Social Media Team to cut clips and publish to Facebook, Twitter and the American Idol Website as quickly as they could write witty comments. I designed the viewing experiences for iphone, mobile web and embeddable playlist players for web.

Here is a video of a typical week worth of instant highlights. It's great stuff.

SnappyTV was co-founded by Mike Folgner, Ryan Cunningham and myself.
